With Elspeth from Joyful Outdoors
Unlock the confidence to explore the wilder side of the Birtley Estate. Join Elspeth, a passionate navigator and forager, for an empowering day designed to turn “I’m always lost” into “I know exactly where we are.”
This isn’t just a workshop; it’s a day to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature alongside a supportive community of like-minded women.
Is This For You?
Whether you are a total novice or just need to dust off some old skills, you are welcome here. This day is perfect if:
- You want to stop relying on GPS and start trusting your own eyes.
- You’ve been told you have a “terrible sense of direction” (spoiler: it’s just a skill you haven’t learned yet!).
- You’re looking for a “win-win-win” day: fresh air, new skills, and great company.
- You want to learn about the edible and medicinal secrets of the Surrey Hills.
What You’ll Learn
We keep our groups small (maximum 8 people) to ensure you get personalized guidance. Throughout the day, we’ll cover:
- The Basics of Map Magic: Understanding symbols, scales, and contours.
- Compass Essentials: How to orient your map and find your way when things look unfamiliar.
- Route Planning: How to plot a journey that is safe, manageable, and scenic.
- The Forager’s Eye: Identifying native trees and wild plants found across the estate.
